There are several types of surgery available for laryngeal paralysis. The most successful surgery, and the one that is almost exclusively performed at SouthPaws, is  arytenoid lateralization, or laryngeal tieback. This surgery involves a lateral approach to the larynx to expose the  muscular process of the arytenoid cartilage. Typically, this is done on the left side of the neck. The cartilage is freed from its attachment, pulled laterally and caudally, and sutured to the caudodorsal aspect of the cricoid cartilage to maintain this position.
